For the past four years Embrace has partnered with the SDCC Nursing program to bring cutting edge health information to our Ten Fifty B Street Apartments in downtown San Diego and our Orange Garden Apartments in Poway, CA. The completely free health fairs planned and coordinated by the nursing students benefit the residents in more way than one can describe. The students offer blood pressure screenings, body mass index information, cholesterol screenings, vision and hearing tests and free flu shots depending on the time of year. In addition the nursing students educate the resident children on bullying, healthy eating and exercise and movement.
The partnership is a true testament to how when people work together, great things can be done. The nursing students are required to embark on a community service project once a year and our residents are the perfect recipients of the free services the students provide.
