LA PINE, OREGON – Foundation for Affordable Housing (Foundation) announces the development of a 39 unit apartment building serving individuals and families who make 30-60% of Area Median Income (AMI).
The development is a one-acre site located on Drafter Road in the Wickiup Junction area of La Pine. Once completed, it will provide 39 units, offering a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom options with rents starting close to $600/mo and all utilities included. Additionally, ten units will be reserved for veterans, reflecting the organization’s commitment to supporting those who have served our country.
Recognizing that development can be disruptive to wildlife and the environment, Foundation is working with Moffet Energy Modeling and other expert consultants. The property “Wickiup Station” will be Earth Advantage certified, and as an organizational goal, Foundation will replant ten times the number of trees removed on the site with an Oregon organization.
“We’re excited to embark on this important endeavor to provide affordable housing for the residents of La Pine,” said Darrin Willard, CEO of Foundation for Affordable Housing. “This development brings to life our vision of addressing the housing needs of the community, while providing supportive services that will enhance the lives of our residents.”
Local partners LRS Architects and SunWest Builders will construct the development, both of whom bring extensive experience and a stellar reputation for contributing to affordable housing in Central Oregon. The Foundation is also proud to utilize Embrace Resident Services for the benefit of the new community. Embrace is a subsidiary nonprofit to The Foundation that provides on-site support and services to residents.
Construction on the project is slated to begin in Spring 2025, with an estimated completion date in Summer 2026. Upon completion, the property will feature a range of amenities, including a large community room, game rooms, fitness area, and a common deck with mountain views. The grounds will also include a playground, raised bed gardens, covered bike storage, and natural areas, fostering a sense of community and well-being among residents. The Foundation extends its gratitude to Umpqua Bank, Deschutes County, and all partners involved in making this project a reality. Additionally, we acknowledge the support of the local nonprofit community and look forward to continued collaboration in addressing the housing needs of La Pine and beyond.
For over 35 years, The Foundation has been a preferred partner of many of the nation’s premiere real estate development companies. Founded by Tom and Deborrah Willard, the organization is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) public benefit nonprofit corporation. They pride themselves on easing the burden of State, County, and Local Housing Authorities through the construction, acquisition, and operation of low-income and senior housing.
